The artist has given the full amount of his £25,000 honor winnings to the MVT, which functions to protect the Britain's small live music spots.

Fender was given the award on mid-October as his latest record the album was chosen as the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

Fender has chosen to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the vital role small stages fulfilled in his initial steps.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the gigs I performed around the North East, and beyond, when I was beginning," said the artist. "These locations are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these venues have shut down – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports local stages.

Sam Fender also took part, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to support 38 small stages across the UK.

The donation assisted spaces that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges arising from flooding, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and sound issues.

Other venues obtained financial assistance in upgrading amenities and gear that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The notion that funds from performances in big venues supports the smaller venues, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has stated.

The musician is far from the only musician to contribute his Mercury Prize prize money to charitable organizations.

When the band won the award in 1996 for their album the album, lead singer the singer stated that the band would contribute their cash to the charity the charity.

In 2002, musician Ms Dynamite shared her bounty across a few charities, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I donated a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked new equipment," she told the media.

In recent years, Ezra Collective gave their winnings to the community center that nurtured their group, alongside other independent music bodies.

And 1994 winners they gave their award to a MS organization after a close contact was diagnosed the condition.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," said singer Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our victory touched somebody else's life."

Last week, the trust revealed it had protected two small stages in south-east England, by bringing them into community ownership.

One venue in that area and the second in that location were bought under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is supported by Arts Council England and music fans who acquire "stakes" in the properties.
