British Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with France's air force in a combined operation on an hidden munitions depot in Syrian territory used by the Islamic State group (IS), as stated by the UK Ministry of Defence.
The site, pinpointed through surveillance, was believed to be storing arms and explosives, the statement said, and was positioned in hills just to the north of the historic site of Palmyra in central Syria.
"Our aircraft utilized Paveway IV guided bombs to hit a series of access tunnels down to the facility... early reports suggest the objective was successfully hit," the ministry announced.
There was no indication of any harm to civilians in the operation conducted Saturday night and every plane involved made a safe return, the defence officials confirmed.
The Typhoon FGR4s were assisted by a Voyager tanker plane.
The Islamic State group - alternatively referred to as ISIS - enforced jihadist rule over significant areas in Syria and Iraq prior to its 2019 collapse.
"This operation shows British leadership, and determination to work closely with our allies, to eradicate any revival of Daesh and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the Middle East," UK Defence Secretary the minister said.
British military aircraft have conducted surveillance missions over Syria to "deter any efforts to regroup" of IS after its defeat at the battle of Baghuz in 2019, the authorities noted.
"I must thank the personnel of British forces participating in this operation for their professionalism and their courage," Healey said. "Including them were a great many British personnel deployed over the holidays. This mission, to remove dangerous terrorists who threaten our safety, shows how our armed forces are prepared to act, continuously, ensuring Britain's security domestically and powerful internationally."
Last December, the US military carried out what it described as a "major assault" on IS targets in Syria, after an ambush killed two US troops and a local interpreter in Palmyra.
The UN says Daesh still maintains an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 fighters in Iraq and Syria.
